Brand Building | Rand's legacy lives on

Lenscrafters “I Love Lenscrafters” is a relatively new campaign to promote one of America’s largest chain of eyewear retail stores.  Created by Cutwater, a design agency in San Francisco. The campaign included print ads using the “eye heart LC” icons on people’s faces.

The design clearly pays homage to the late American graphic designer Paul Rand, who created such iconic brand logos like Apple, IBM, ABC TV and Enron, among others. Rand was from the “less is more” school, and has been influential in today’s modern graphic design.

Nine years after completing the IBM logo re-design in 1972, Paul Rand designed this poster for IBM in 1981. The poster illustrates the letters of the IBM logo as an eye, bee and M.
