Brand Building and the role of Color ~ compelling as ever

One of my favorite subjects, brand building across multicultural landscapes, of which color plays a compelling role that can fuel or foil effectiveness of communication. And yes, that includes brand communication.

A recently published book, “Information is Beautiful“, by David McCandless, explores this topic further, and presents the findings of the extensive research via a eye-friendly infographics (pls see below).

McCandless, a London-based data journalist and information explored the meaning of color across 10 distinctive cultures; 1. Western/American, 2. Japanese, 3. Hindu, 4. Native American, 5. Chinese, 6. Asian, 7. Eastern European, 8. Muslim, 9. African, and 10. South American. The color meanings ranged from Anger, Authority and Art/Creativity to Virtue, Warmth and Wisdom.

Fascinating indeed! What I’ve been blabbering about, has a scientific research to back it up, and the visually-stunning book makes for an interesting read and insight into data. Making data palpable and fascinating.
