Dieter Rams (b: May 20, 1932, Wiesbaden, Germany) is an industrial designer who was the director at the German electronics company Braun for 30+ years. A well-respected designer who is revered for his “less is more” design philosophy that helped build Braun into a brand with cool design.

“My aim is to omit everything superfluous so that the essential is shown to the possible advantage…”

Dieter Rams: What is Good Design?

  1. Should be Innovative
  2. Makes a product useful
  3. Has to be aesthetic
  4. Makes a product understandable
  5. Is honest
  6. Unobtrusive
  7. Sustainable
  8. Is consequent
  9. Ecofriendly
  10. Last but least good design is to be less as possible
