Lighter side of branding | Crowdsourcing for naming the plural form of Prius

You’ll remember my previous post on Toyota’s tapping into Social Media to help them decide on the plural form of Prius. This crowdsourcing approach was taken in two markets; the US and UK in 2011 and 2012 respectively. So it’s interesting to see how the two accents differ.


This was the UK teaser announcing the naming competition:

And as the dates were drawing closer, they created a follow-up reminder for people to vote that looked like this (notice that the UK TVC makes mention of the the result of the American campaign with the name “PRII“ (pronounced PREE-eye)!
