Lighter side of branding | Cheeky ad copy to lure travelers to get off their…


I found this while researching budget airlines for a Brand Strategy project for a client. I chuckled when I read this ad copy for Cebu Pacific, an LCC (Low Cost Carrier) from The Philippines. Notice the  cheeky ad that reads: “Betcha buy Bali now” which is a pun on the 1972 classic soul number “Betcha by golly wow”, by The Stylistics.


And their other one is just as funny! “Free one way ticket” written as “Free Juan-way ticket”.

Most English speakers in Southeast Asia (and much of Asia) would probably not read it correctly, but bear in mind that The Philippines was a Spanish colony for over 300 years, so they know how to pronounce Juan properly!
